Chocolate covered candy is a delicious treat that can be made right in your own home. You can purchase melting chocolate at your local grocery store. Depending on your preference, you can dip candy into white, milk or dark chocolate. A variety of candies and fruits can be dipped into chocolate. By experimenting with the candies you have available, you'll find the ones that taste best when dipped into chocolate.

    Candies With a Kick

    • To take the edge off of spiced candies, such as spice drops, candy canes and even larger mints, you can dip them in chocolate. Some chocolatiers prefer to dip only half of a piece of candy into the melted chocolate so you can still identify what the candy is. Others prefer to dip the entire piece in chocolate. To do this, drop the piece of candy into the chocolate. Scoop the candy out with just your index finger and middle finger, then slightly shake the candy up and down to remove excess chocolate. Place the candy on a baking sheet to allow the chocolate to dry. Once you've placed the candy on the sheet, you can slightly smooth it out to make it more aesthetically pleasing.

    Gummy Candies

    • Candies such as fruity gummies and other sugary snacks taste great when dipped into chocolate. Once you have dipped half of the candy into the melted chocolate, place the piece on a baking sheet and allow it to harden.

    Candies On a Stick

    • Large and small lollipops can make great dipping candy. For candies that incorporate a stick, you can make the chocolate really shiny upon drying by hanging the candy to dry. Do this by setting up a string across a room and newspaper under the string to catch any dripping chocolate. Then, after dipping the lollipops, hang them by their stems with a clothes hook. Be sure the string is secure enough to hold the amount of lollipops you are dipping. This technique will give your candy an overall smooth chocolate look.

    Tips and Tricks

    • While the choice of chocolate is ultimately up to you, usually sweeter chocolates such as milk chocolate goes better with more sour candies, while darker, more bitter chocolate pairs better with sweeter candies.

If you are in a rush, you can place the dipped candies into the refrigerator for a quicker hardening time. However, the chocolate coating will not be as shiny when subjected to a colder hardening temperature. For a more shiny, lacquer finish, let the chocolate harden at room temperature.
