The Hottest Trends in Gel Manicure Art
Gel manicures have taken over the industry in the last few years. More and more clients are requesting gel over traditional polish, and they're also getting quite creative with some of their design requests.
Nail art in general has also seen a huge boost recently. Walk into any Sephora and you'll see a section devoted just for nails, and all of the creative things that you can do with them.
Lately, even the most demure clients are asking for subtle nail art that takes the every day manicure to the next level, so I wanted to cover some of the top trends to get you inspired.
Foil striping is one of my favorite new techniques. To create this look small strips of colored foil are applied to polish to create subtle or dramatic nail art. This technique can be great for the client that just wants to add a touch of design, but it's also a very fun technique to use when creating dramatic, geometric patterns.
Foils strips are applied onto a coat of gently dried polish, and then set with a thick gel topcoat which ensures a lasting design.
Ombre nails are great for the fickle client who can't decide on one color because you can experiment with a variety of different colors when creating this hot nail trend.
Ombre nails receive and extra punch when glitter polish polish is used. Contrasting colors, or a gentle color gradation both look great when using this technique.
Use glitter polish, or even raw glitter to create this stunning look. You can also experiment by combining traditional polish and glitter polish as seen in the picture above.
Tribal prints have been a hot trend for awhile now on clothes and textiles, so it was only a matter of time before the trend migrated to your nails. This technique can be time consuming, but the end result is quite impressive.
This technique looks best when different designs are created on each nail, even just a subtle variation on each finger can really make a difference.
Nail pens, or a very fine brush are needed to recreate this look
This dreamy looking manicure is actually pretty easy to create. Thin pieces of colored foil are layered over polish to create this mottled effect. The foil is then set with a thick, clear gel to ensure lasting results.
I love this technique because you can really play around with a variety of different colors on the same manicure.
These manicures are definitely for the client that isn't scared to make a statement. Anything goes with these over the top tips which I've seen embellished with anything from animals, to cheese burgers.
Obviously this look is more fashion than function, but thanks to celebrities like Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Nicky Minaj, this over the top manicure won't be going anywhere any time soon.
