Why is it Important to Attend Parenting Classes?
- Parenting classes provide information on changing a baby's diaper. Among the subjects are disposable diapers versus cloth diapers, different diaper rash ointments, wipes and powders. Participants will likely get to practice changing a diaper on a doll.
- Parenting classes discuss different formula varieties, breastfeeding techniques and how much formula or breast milk a baby should ingest at a certain age. Frequency of feeding and techniques can vary.
- Parenting classes address techniques for minimizing reflux and colic, two very common conditions that have to do with digestion and newborn development. There are different ways to feed a baby with reflux that can help alleviate symptoms.
- The usefulness of products such as mechanical swings, bassinets, playmats, bouncer seats and jumpers will be discussed. These products can keep a fussy baby calm and quiet when Mom or Dad can't. There will also be discussion of essential products such as infant bathtubs, cribs, furniture and bottles, and their cost.
- Newborns sleep most of the day and night, aside from their feedings and a few awake portions of the day. Parenting classes go into detail about how much a baby sleeps when he gets home, how this will change over time, how long a baby should be allowed to sleep before waking him for a feeding (if at all), and ways to get the baby to sleep.
