High Blood Pressure--Do You Have This Condition

29
High blood pressure has become one of the very common medical conditions in the 21st century. There are a number of things which have resulted in high blood pressure becoming so wide spread.Firstly there is obesity. In the USA and other countries the incidence of obese adults and children has never been so high. Overeating and total lack of exercise are the main causes of this. Few kids walk or bicycle to school anymore instead, they are driven by doting parents. They don't exercise in school or after school.

The result is an epidemic of high blood pressure and diabetes in youngsters as well as adults. A second cause is stress. Many people these days live under constant stress at work and/or at home.It seems to be a common problem in modern day life. A third cause is lack of exercise. Most people drive or ride public transit to work. They sit or stand at a workplace all day then drive home to spend the evening watching TV.

High blood pressure has no easily identifiable symptoms. Most serious conditions such as heart problems or diabetes will provide ample evidence that there is something wrong and will cause you to seek medical help. High blood pressure on the contrary may go on for years while you lead a normal life in complete ignorance of this problem. It is often first discovered during a doctors examination for some other complaint or during a routine health check.

High blood pressure can result in a heart attack or stroke so it is a really serious condition. The symptoms you are likely to experience in this way are. 1. Pain, pressure or tightness in the chest and arms. 2. Loss of consciouness 3. Dizziness. 4. Tiredness 5. Nausea. 6. Confusion 7. Low exercise capability. These symptoms are usually serious enough to at least call for a visit to the doctor or may result in an emergency such as a heart attack or stroke. The underlying problem of high blood pressure will then be diagnosed and efforts must be made to reduce the pressure to acceptable levels. This may involve medication and or lifestyle changes.

Because this condition can be present for years without showing any symptoms it is very important to have your blood pressure checked regularly. Anyone including children can have high blood pressure and the results can be very serious if appropriate treatment is not undertaken.

If you have not had your blood pressure checked for some time you should have it done rightaway. Many drugstores have blood pressure machines which you can use for a quick check. If you are in any doubt about your blood pressure make an appointment with your doctor to have it checked or go to a walk in medical clinic and they will do it for you. It takes only a few minutes and may save your life.
