Not Everyone Experiences the Same Causes of Heartburn

102
Have you ever experienced the burning feeling in your chest after eating some of your favorite food? Heartburn is one of the most common ailments we face. This article will take a look at some of the main heartburn causes.

To help clarify things a little, keep in mind that heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux. Even though it is a common problem, it is often quite easy to treat. But, it might take some will-power on your part because it may mean you have to eliminate some of your most loved food and drinks.

For example, I love pasta and tomato sauce. However, recently it has really been the cause of heartburn for me, which I am really disappointed in. I thought maybe it was just a fluke but it has happened the last two times I've had tomato sauce.

So, what does this mean? Well, it looks like I will have to stop having pasta sauce for now because I don't like the feeling of heartburn and I don't want to cause any lasting damage to my esophagus.

What Effects Me May Not Effect You

Not everyone will experience the same causes of heartburn that I do. Just because tomato sauce is giving me heartburn does not mean that it will happen to you.

For example, maybe it is coffee that is your trigger for the symptoms to occur. It could be something like orange juice or even chocolate.

Now why would chocolate be one of the causes of heartburn? Like coffee and tea it contains a substance called theobromine. This substance helps to relax or weaken the lower esophageal sphincter. This in turns allows stomach acid into the esophagus.

But, not everyone that drinks coffee or tea or eats chocolate will experience the burning sensation of heartburn or acid reflux. In fact, sometimes coffee will cause acid reflux for me but tea and chocolate do not.

The obvious solution is to stop eating or drinking the things that cause the heartburn in the first place. Well, that is exactly what I am doing by staying away from tomato sauce now, even though I really like it too!

Some people will turn to medication to help ease their symptoms. But, instead of that why not try natural methods to rid yourself of the often painful symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.
