For many people, Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest snack-fest of the year. The game may or may not be memorable, but with planning and preparation the food will be. Most people choose to serve snacks and finger foods during the game because they are easy to eat while sitting in front of the TV. Add sandwiches or hot dogs you've got a meal. You may create a buffet your guests can return to, or you can bring new choices in as the game goes on. Either way, offer a variety of foods that can be nibbled on throughout the game and that go well with what your guests will be drinking. Remember: it's a football game--keep it simple and allow yourself time to enjoy the action. - Chips served with a variety of dips should be ready to go with the pre-game hype. Spicy salsa and tortilla chips are a classic. If you're going with nachos, bring them out in batches so the cheese is melted and hot. Cucumber and yogurt create a Greek flavor that goes with bread, olives or salad. If you have a buffet, try a cheese fondue or warm artichoke dip that can be used with chips, bread, or vegetables.
- Why fight tradition? A hot dog buffet with a choice of toppings is a classic with any ball game. Beyond relish and mustard, try some wild toppings like roasted peppers, onions, jalapenos, or cucumbers. Double the choices with mini-burgers and a choice of cheeses. A hot-pot with chili can load-up a dog or a burger, and is a natural choice in the middle of winter. If you want to make it easy, go with a sub-sandwich loaded with a choice of meats and cut into small servings that guests can go back to throughout the game. Don't forget potato chips or some classic tater tots.
- Buffalo wings are now a football food classic. For easy preparation, boil the wings first then quickly crisp them up in the oven or a deep fryer. Beyond the classic spicy Buffalo sauce, there are hundreds of wing sauce recipes you can explore. Go with the classic blue-cheese dressing and celery on the side. Cocktail meatballs are always a hit, and like wings, can be be made spicy or mild. To really rock your guests, prepare some homemade pizza dough before the game and bring out freshly made slices, piping hot from the oven.
- If you are lucky enough to have a Super Bowl with fourth quarter excitement, it may be time for dessert. Put together some chocolate or fruit mixture to put on a simple graham cracker crust, or have some cookies ready to add to the buffet. Also, you can't miss with homemade brownies and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
