Would you agree that ‘winging it' is not a solid approach to being vegan?  In this article you'll learn some basic tips to help you with your healthy vegan diet approach.

Tip # 1: Eat a wide variety of raw vegetables.

Raw vegetables are ‘alive' and contain beneficial enzymes, so they are superior to cooked vegetables.  Keep a routine of eating salads.  Eating a wide variety of vegetables will also take care of your protein requirements.

If you focus on eating alkaline foods such as almonds, avocados, leafy greens, radish, celery, tomato, alfalfa sprouts, wheat grass, and garlic, it will help to keep your pH alkaline instead of acidic.

The real secret to a healthy vegan diet is eliminating certain food and beverages that have an acidic affect on your pH.  Coffee, alcohol, and foods high in sugar all fit into this category.

Tip # 2: Incorporate healthy sources of vegan fat.

Why are healthy sources of fat important?  Because we all want energy that lasts and doesn't crash.  Compare the energy that lasts from eating a avocados and almonds with the energy that crashes when you eat a food high in sugar, like pineapple.

So how can you incorporate healthy sources of fat into your vegan recipes?  Add slices of avocado to sandwiches, salads, and wraps.  Snack on hydrated almonds that have soaked in water for a few hours.  Eat sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and flaxseed.

Tip # 3: Take a vitamin B-12 supplement.

Vitamin B-12 supports nerve and brain function.  Doctors recommend that vegans take a B-12 supplement because it is not easily acquired unless you eat animal products.

If you're not into the idea of taking a supplement, B-12 can be found in rice milk and other milk substitutes as well as imitation meat products.

Tip # 4: Acknowledge that you are part of the solution.

Vegans step lightly with their eco-footprint.  Animal-free foods are cruelty-free foods.  This gives the eating experience a twist of enjoyability and compassion.

Stepping lightly with your environmental footprint also has a wonderful way of making anyone embracing a plant-based diet feel like they are connected to something greater than themselves.  It's a way of saying, "thank you" to Mother Earth.
