Deepavali is known to be the festival of light which is celebrated across India. The whole house is enlightened with burning of earthen diyas and candles. Deepavali is a festival especially celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Nepalese. Deepavali has many stories attached to it. All religions have their own reasons to celebrate, but at the end they all come together and celebrate the festival of lights forgetting the reasons why they celebrate it. Like in Hinduism Deepavali is celebrated to celebrate the return of Lord ‘Rama' to ‘Ayodhya' after 14 years of exile and to celebrate his victory over Ravana, the demon. For Jainism Diwali marks the attainment of nirvana by Lord Mahavira. Whereasthe SIkhs celebrate it to mark the return of Guru Har Gobind Singh Ji, from exile, where he was sent by the Mughal Emperor, Jahangir.

The celebrations for the festival start much before time with full enthusiasm, with as everyday holding a significant meaning like "Vasu Baras", 'Baras' means 12th day and ‘vasu' means cow. On this day cow   and calf are worshipped. The other auspicious day is "Dhan teras", ‘Dhan' means wealth and ‘Trayodashi' means "13th day". Therefore as the name implies, this day falls on the 13th day of the second half of the lunar month. This day is considered to be an auspicious day for buying gold. There are a lot of astrology aspects on the beginning of these festivals.

The festival of Diwali also holds a spiritual meaning which is "enlightening of inner light". There are many prayers held on the festival and throughout all the days that it is celebrated. Along with this various prayers held on the day are:

Lakshmi Puja : Laxmi Puja is considered to be the most important part of this festival as people pray for wealth and prosperity and lord Ganesha is also worshipped

Govardhan Puja: Celebrated as the day Krishna defeated Indra. Lord Krishna taught people that that people should perform their duties faithfully as praying to god and goddess will not lower their burden, happiness and prosperity can only be achieved with hard work.

Diwali is one of the biggest Indian festivals celebrated in the country. There is a lot of happiness and enthusiasm among people and they celebrate it for five continuous days.
