A Gift
April 2003, I was gifted the name of a small skin care company located in the "heart" of India.
This gift came through a gentleman I had not known long.
A tattered envelope and an old cardboard box filled with samples from the company were all that he left on my dining room table.
Curiously, I began to sift through worn flyers, brochures, pictures, and "aging" face creams.
I felt a rustling in my heart.
A search on the internet proved successful in finding this small, unknown company in the Far East.
This was definitely an adventure for my mind and senses, but without any formal business training I wondered why I would be chosen to introduce this exotic, vibrant product line to the western world.
Two weeks later I joined a friend, to drive up the California coastline to attend a seminar.
Over a large latte, I told her about the "gift" and in that moment a high-spirited project was ignited.
Upon my return, I retreated to my little beach cottage on the Pacific to write an email to the Indian company that would forever transform and reintroduce me to a life beyond appearance.
The dreamtime in Southern California was coming to a close.
I really needed a message from nature to know if this was a temptation to seduce me off my path, or if it was indeed part of the master design.
In my world there is no better place to ask for an outward sign than on a Southern California beach, and better yet, one with an ashram, surfers, and ever-blooming gardens.
I found a secluded bench nestled among the birds of paradise to seek my answer.
With the ocean in view I asked for a sign.
Known and unknown masters from around the world gathered over the sea, and in one voice with unbounded eloquence I heard, "become the guardian of this project, bring forth to all, maintain her purity, and nature will provide.
"I then perceived an iridescent blue and gold light effusing the herbal skin care company, hence the "heart," with divine radiance for all to behold their beauty...
beyond appearance.
However, as enchanting and mystical as this experience appeared to be, I needed a humble sign from nature that I was used to receiving for it to feel right to me, so I returned back to my cottage by the sea.
Later that day, a walk along the pier to watch the fading sun would soon unveil another "tale.
"As I stared out from the pier's edge, a sole, exuberant dolphin emerged high out of the water.
With the nod of her head, a joyful laugh, and the flip of her tail I finally had my sign.
Looking around to see if anyone else had seen what had happened, I, too, shook my head, laughed, and bid adieu to the West Coast sea.
