Pacific Grove, CA Exercise Key To Senior's Good Health: View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California

Staying active is one of the most important things a senior can do to keep healthy as they grow older, and we always encourage our clients at Family inHome Caregiving to get out and about which encourages both physical activity and social stimulation. One place they can go for classes, lunch, or just a cup of coffee is at the non-profit Carmel Foundation. It was great to see Ann Smith profiled in the Monterey Herald. "She wore black tights over a body that looks like it might belong to a 20-something. She moved with the grace of a dancer, no surprise, because she has taught dance for most of her life." The reporter was talking about 84-year old Ann Smith who teaches stretching movements for a group of seniors at the Carmel Foundation. Her husband is 90 and still works full time for the Pentagon, taking Ann with him as he travels all over the world for the government. Her message was that strength and flexibility can be recovered at any age, it isn't a difficult goal to accomplish. Her philosophy is an inspiration. Although not all of our clients are in the physical condition to take advantage of classes like this, many of them are. I have one client who is over 100 years old and still works out with a personal trainer. Ann inspired the two dozen people who showed up for her class and encouraged them to carry on with the exercises at home. "I thought she presented an awareness of what we can do, and the fact that we don't really need to take classes. We can do these things on our own," said Dorothy Madden, one attendee. If you can't attend one of Ann's classes, go to the Pilgrim's Way bookstore where she has several exercise videos including one with her daughter and her granddaughter. How great to see both Ann and her husband so active in their 80's and 90's.

About Richard Kuehn & Family inHome Caregiving of Monterey:
After more than a decade of caregiving, both in a professional environment and for a 97 year old family member I was dissatisfied with service from local caregiving agencies. I became convinced of the need for a service which provides very personal assistance to elderly and founded Family inHome Caregiving serving the Monterey Peninsula.
