Collagen Moisturizer Or a Co-Q10 Moisturizer?

A collagen moisturizer is an oxymoron.
There is nothing moisturizing about collagen, never has been, never will be.
There may be other ingredients in the product that are moisturizing, but most times, the only moisturizing ingredient included in the product is water.
If you learn to avoid products that contain non-moisturizing ingredients, you will be happier with the results.
So, here are some of the ingredients to avoid; petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin wax, liquid paraffin, beeswax, hyaluronic acid, elastin and collagen.
Any of these can temporarily improve the way that the skin feels by locking in moisture.
But, most of them cause greasiness and except for beeswax and hyaluronic acid, they all clog the pores, increasing the likelihood of blemishes and break outs.
When we learn that the amount of something decreases as time goes by, we often think that we can correct it, by adding it.
In some cases that works.
For example, the skin's antioxidant levels decrease as time goes by.
We can correct that with creams that contain properly formulated antioxidants.
The skin tends to be less moist, as we age.
The amount of soluble-collagen and elastic fibers decreases, as time goes by, too.
But, we cannot correct that by using a collagen moisturizer.
Likewise, we cannot correct decreased levels of hyaluronic acid by applying it directly.
There are other steps to take.
Hyaluronic levels decline because of enzymatic activity that breaks this glue down.
Wakame kelp extracts have been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity.
Thus, hyaluronic acid levels begin to rise to those of a much younger person.
But, how do we stimulate the production of elastic fibers or increase soluble-collagen that is lacking in older skin?How do we improve hydration?There are several nutrients and plant extracts that have proven effectiveness for those purposes, but a collagen moisturizer is not among them.
Let's start with avocado extract.
It provides the vitamins A and D.
Deficiency in either of those vitamins causes excessive dryness.
It provides vitamin E, an effective antioxidant that is known to prevent age spots.
It provides essential fatty acids that are very similar to the skin's sebum, its natural lubricant.
Recently, it was found to improve the amount of soluble-collagen present in the skin by a substantial amount.
A recent study has shown that coenzyme Q10, when applied topically provides improvement in sun-damaged skin.
That's not surprising.
Coenzyme Q10 is quickly depleted when the skin is exposed to UV rays from the sun.
After six weeks of use, Coq10 was shown to reduce wrinkles and increase hydration by 37%.
That makes it an effective moisturizer.
Instead of buying a collagen moisturizer, look for one that contains keratin.
Bioactive keratin has been shown in clinical studies to increase the production of new cells and fibers, improve firmness, moisture content and even the skin's ability to retain moisture.
If you do a little research, you will learn that a collagen moisturizer has never been proven to do anything.
Don't waste your time or money on this kind of product.
Better solutions are available.
