How to Do a Male Fade Cut
- 1). Trim the hair if the longest layer is much longer than you want it to be. To do this, use the highest guard on the clippers. If the highest guard doesn't cut the hair, try the next lowest guard and so on until you achieve the desired length. After trimming, cut and shape the longest layer of hair -- you can forgo trimming with clippers and shape the hair using scissors if you only want a small amount taken off the length. When using clippers, use an upward motion instead of a downward motion.
- 2). Comb hair downwards and put the next lowest setting on the clippers -- you'll have to switch the guards to do this. Trim the hair straight across and slightly down the hairline.
- 3). Change the clipper to the next lowest setting. Trim again, in a straight (imaginary) line around the head, slightly down the hairline.
- 4). Continue switching clippers to the next lowest setting and repeating the above step until you've achieved the desired length of hair for the client and until you've reached the end of the hair at the neck.
- 5). Brush your hair to get rid of excess hair. In order to see the fade clearly, shampoo and condition hair.
