How to Make a Super Bowl Game Points Pool

27
    • 1). Use a ruler and permanent marker to create a 10-square-by-10-square grid on a piece of 16-inch-by-20-inch poster board.

    • 2). Sell squares to guests for a predetermined amount, such as 25 cents or $1 per square. The more squares a person has, the greater his chance to win. Write in the person’s name into each square he purchases.

    • 3). Cut a piece of paper into 10 squares. Write the numbers “0” through “9” on each of them. Fold the pieces of paper into quarters and place them into a hat. Draw one piece of paper out at a time to assign a number between 0 and 9 to each row and each column. Assign numbers to all of the rows first, followed by the columns.

    • 4). Flip a coin to decide which direction of the board will be assigned to each team playing in the Super Bowl. Assign the row numbers to one team. Assign column numbers to the other team. Color the numbers in two different colors so it is easy to tell which numbers represent each team.

    • 5). Choose four points during the game at which you will select winners based on the points in the squares, such as at the end of each quarter.

    • 6). Explain to the guests that the numbers beside the rows and columns represent the last digit of the score of each team playing in the Super Bowl at different points during the game. For example, if the score is 10-7 at halftime with team A leading team B, find the intersection of the “0” row or column for team A and the “7” row or column for team B. The person with his name in that square wins a percentage of the pool.

    • 7). Decide how much of the total pool each winner stands to gain. For example, award 25 percent at the end of each quarter or, give guests incentive to stay until the end of the game by giving each of the first three quarter winners 20 percent of the pool and the winner at the end of the game 40 percent.
