The Main Causes For Infertility In Women

If a woman has difficulties to get pregnant she may suffer infertility. Infertility is rather common condition among all women worldwide. This can occur due to variety of different reasons.

The most frequent problem of female infertility may be due to problems with ovulation. Irregular or totally missing periods could signal that a woman is not ovulating normally.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is frequently the culprit of female infertility. PCOS is the result of hormonal imbalance which can affect normal ovulation. Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is another condition which interferes with normal ovulation.

Here are listed some of the most usual causes of infertility among women:

- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID): It is an infection of the pelvis or one or more parts of the reproductive organs like the ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, or the uterus.

Pelvic inflammatory disease is often caused by the same bacteria that cause also two sexually transmitted diseases - chlamydia and gonorrhea. In addition of infertility, the condition can be the cause of ectopic pregnancy.

- Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS): This is a condition where the ovaries produce large amounts of male hormones, mainly testosterone.

- Endometriosis: This is another frequent culprit that causes infertility. The uterine lining grows outside the uterine cavity.

- Some STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).

- All kind of abnormalities in the ovaries causing imbalance of the 5 primary hormones that control female reproductive system.

- Abnormal adrenal or thyroid hormone levels may also cause problems in the ovaries.

- Sometimes woman's immune system reject sperm by mistake and destroys it.

- Luteal phase defect is a condition where the production of progesterone by the egg follicle is failed.

- Fibroids in uterus: These are non-malignant tumors that grow in tissue and muscle of the uterus.

- Other uterine anomalies.

- Complications after surgical operation: Sometimes surgical operations in abdominal areas may cause critical scar tissue which can be the cause of infertility.

- Issues in muscles of the uterus.

- Cervical mucus issues.

- Age: Fertility will decrease with age. Fewer number of eggs is left and the quality of them may not be as good as used to be.

- Stress has been proved to be one factor that may decrease your fertility.

- Poor diet

- Hard athletic training.

- Both obesity and underweight can cause hormonal abnormalities causing infertility.

- Smoking: A lot of studies support the fact that smoking has an adverse impact on fertility.

- Alcohol abuse: Drinking alcohol can adversely affect fertility.

- Sexually transmitted infections.

- There are two types of ovarian cysts - those that don't affect for fertility and those that do. Cysts that may cause fertility issues are quite large, and in that case surgical operation might be wise.
