How to Buy

Fishing licenses, which are nontransferable, can be purchased online at the WRC website with a VISA or MasterCard. You can also purchase a license by telephoning 888-248-6834 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Licenses can also be purchased from independent wildlife service agents; you can locate one near you on the WRC website. Most Department of Marine Fisheries offices sell licenses, as do most Walmarts and most sporting goods stores and bait and tackle shops. A $2 fee may apply at the time of license purchase in addition to the cost of the license

License Types

Fishing licenses are needed for freshwater fishing and coastal saltwater fishing; these can be purchased separately or in combination. A number of license types and combinations are available, ranging from the basic, 10-day freshwater license, which costs $7 as of 2014; to the $65 Unified Sportsman/Coastal Recreation Fishing license, which permits the holder to fish in inland and on coastal waters, and to hunt. Special licenses are available for seniors and the disabled.
