How to Make a Necklace With Sewing String
- 1). Measure and cut three 18-inch lengths of sewing string using a ruler and a pair of scissors. Adjust the length depending upon how long, or short, you would like the necklace to be. Use sewing string of the same color for each strand, or different colors for a multi-colored necklace.
- 2). Hold the strands together so that the top and bottom of each line up. Tie a knot approximately 2 inches down from the top of the lengths of sewing string.
- 3). Tape the top of the sewing string, above the knot, to a hard surface, such as a table top. This makes braiding the sewing string necklace easier.
- 4). Braid the three lengths of sewing string, crossing the strand on the left over the strand in the middle, and the strand on the right over the strand in the middle, until there is only 2 inches of sewing string.
- 5). Tie a knot to finish the braid. The extra length of either end will be used to tie the necklace around your neck.
- 6). Decorate your sewing string necklace by threading a pendant, available at craft stores. onto the braid until it reaches the middle. Choose one that represents your favorite animal or simply a pretty jewel. Alternatively, thread a number of colored beads onto your sewing string necklace in the pattern you prefer.
