Constipation refers to a health condition when fewer bowel movements are occurred than it should be. It is indeed an uncomfortable and embarrassing health situation that even require serious medical attention if continues for longer period. Typically, if you are having less than three bowel movements in a week, quite obviously you are suffering from constipation problem.

Constipation is more than just an annoyance. It can lead to skin eruptions due to the toxins in our bodies, hemorrhoids, irritability, weight gain, body odor, and headaches. These are some things that I won't be signing myself up for anytime soon!

Some sufferers base their daily schedule around their constipation, wanting to be near a toilet in case the urge to go strikes. For those who think that constipation problems are minor, talk to anyone who has had the severe abdominal pain and cramping that can accompany bowel problems like this. Listen to them express their feelings of hopelessness and frustration. Minor problem? Not for those with severe constipation!

Another constipation cure is to increase your intake of fiber rich foods such as bran cereals, fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. An apple or two a day can help keep the constipation away! Try going to the bathroom after meals if at all possible and allow some time to relax and read while you are sitting there. Make yourself read 2-3 small articles in a magazine. Exercise has also been linked to a constipation cure, even a 20 minute walk three times/week can be helpful.

Spices such as ginger, asafetida, cumin seeds, and fennel seeds help in digestion and may play significant role as a constipation cure. Using strong spices in your food such as cayenne, red chili pepper/flakes, chili or garlic may irritate the intestines and hence is given up for a while.

Try replacing some meat on your plate with more vegetables. General rule of thumb is to eat some meat no bigger than the size of the palm of your hand. Another rule of thumb is two servings of dairy and meat per day, the rest of your nutrients should come from fruits, vegetables, grains and healthy fats.

A common Ayurvedic medicine for constipation is Triphala Churna. A teaspoon of this powder to be taken with warm water or milk at the time going to bed. This remedy is another effective and good Home Remedy for Constipation

Drink Magnesium Oxide - This form of magnesium highly relaxes the bowels and lets food pass through much more easily and quickly as a result. Be careful not to use too much as it can cause diarrhea if too much is used. Although if you're constipated this can be a good thing.

These are all great natural constipation cures, however the tips mentioned above could take several days to weeks before you start seeing results. This is where cleansing your colon naturally is another effective quick solution, where you can be experiencing results in under a week.

Prune juice by itself is very beneficial for constipation. It is a safe, gentle and an effective natural laxative. Drink a cup of prune juice in the morning and a cup in the evening. Prune juice contain the substance dihydrophenylisatin, which is responsible for the laxative action.
