How to Loosen a Hard to Close Zipper

82
    • 1). Spray a little bit of lubricant on the zipper. Work the zipper up and down a few times to thoroughly lubricate the length of the zipper, and it should solve the problem. Give the spray lubricant a few minutes to settle into the teeth, and then wipe off any excess.

    • 2). Loosen the zipper with a solid, waxy substance such as lip balm, a candle, wax made for snow skis, or a crayon. Using a toothpick, work the lubricant into the teeth of the zipper, and then slide the zipper up and down. Wipe off any excess lubricant with a paper towel so that it doesn't get on your clothes.

    • 3). Use a pair of pliers to gently ease a misaligned tooth in the zipper's mechanism back into place. Frequently this happens when you put too much force on the zipper when trying to free fabric that's gotten caught in the lining. Use a gentle touch when trying to solve that problem so another one isn't created in the process.

    • 4). Grab a good old-fashioned bar of soap to try and fix a hard to close zipper. Simply rub the soap onto the teeth of the zipper, both on the inside and outside of the zipper if possible. If the zipper is down, spread some of the bar soap on both sides of the zipper and work it into the teeth as best as possible.
