How to Sew a Built-in Bra

    • 1). Select the bra or bra insert you wish to install in the garment. Keep in mind that you can purchase a colored bra specifically to attach to the garment or you can use flesh- or white-colored bra inserts that are sold at fabric stores.

    • 2). Place the garment on the person who will wear it. Position the bra or bra inserts onto the outside of the garment until they are in the correct position. Mark around the outside of each cup using sewing chalk.

    • 3). Lift the outer fabric of the garment. Trim around the cups for pre-made bras using scissors. Place each trimmed cup into position at the marks and pin the bra cups into place on the garment liner. (The pins should point outward for easy adjustment.)

    • 4). Take the garment off and put the garment back on. Each time a garment is worn it is in a slightly different spot on the body. Check the appearance of the garment with everything in place. Make any adjustments to bra position.

    • 5). Hand sew the bra cups to the lining using a matching color thread and an overcast stitch.
