Every once in a while, I watch in fascination at some of those late night commercials for ab machines and other spot reduction miracle products.
They always have a shot of a fantastic looking guy or gal sweating over the machine and looking really focused.
The truth is that these gorgeous models make a living looking that good.
We of course, have a different lifestyle.
So why can't I spot reduce my abs like the people on TV? The truth of course is that fat is deposited evenly around your body but your genetic predisposition to body fat cell enlargement is unique.
You might be susceptible to fat cell enlargement around your hips or chest; others carry this fat cell enlargement more evenly over their entire body.
In order to reduce fat cells, you need to get them to work for you overtime.
You put your fat cells to work by getting them to use their contents for fuel.
The market misinforms the public of the benefits that can be expected from their so-called revolutionary products when in fact there really are no revolutionary results to look forward to.
Since excess weight puts you at risk for many health problems, you may need to set some weight loss plans to help avoid those risks and prevent disease.
Set appropriate objectives.
Using a weight loss plan just for vanity's sake is psychologically less helpful than losing weight to improve health.
The best way to burn fat is to increase your muscle tone while employing a diet that causes your body to use fat as fuel instead of carbohydrates.
You will have to use strength training as well as cardiovascular exercise done at varying degrees of intensity.
The key of course is to combine the two components regularly on a consistent basis.
This means that as you incorporate stretching exercises in your routine, taking a particular focus on the muscles of the upper and front part of the trunk, including the abdominal and trunk muscles, the activity has the tendency to strengthen the muscles of the back that extend to the spine.
Consult your doctor before beginning an exercise or weight loss program.
Get as much exercise as you can that feels good without letting it interfere with your work or family life.
If you need to, remind yourself that you are preventing many health problems when you prevent weight gain; and keeping your health is a gift to your family as well as yourself.
You might have to reach a fat level of 10% or 12% to significantly reduce your fat cells in troubled areas.
Keep at it because you'll succeed only if you take consistent action.
