How Long Is a Soccer Game?
- Professional soccer games are 90 minutes long. They are divided up into two 45-minute halves. A tie is recorded as such unless it is a championship game, in which case they will play a 30-minute overtime period.
- College soccer games are 90 minutes. They are divided into two 45-minute halves. A tie is recorded as such, except in the case of a championship game, in which case two 10-minute "Golden Goal" periods will be played (the first team to score wins).
- High school soccer games for both boys and girls are 80 minutes in duration. The games can be played in two 40-minute halves or four 20-minute quarters. Tied games may result in further play, depending on the individual state soccer association.
- Junior Varsity soccer games are 50 minutes. They are divided into two 25-minute halves. Tied games may result in further play, depending on the individual state soccer association.
- Recreational soccer games are 40 minutes. They are divided into two 20-minute halves. Tied games may result in further play, depending on the individual recreation league.
- Youth soccer games are 40 minutes long. These games are divided into four 10-minute quarters.
