United States Kevlar Helmet Specifications

26
    • Kevlar Helmets are used as head protection for military units, preventing bullets from penetrating into the brain. While the bullet will be stopped in its path, the head will still be susceptible to blunt trauma from the impact itself, so while a Kevlar Helmet is hardly a foolproof protection method, it beats not having one.

    Penetration Protection

    • Kevlar Helmets are rated to stop penetration of level III-A threats, such as 9mm full metal jacket rounds. They also provide fragmentation protection against exploding threats such as grenades and other types of shrapnel.

    Weight

    • Kevlar Helmets are fairly light on the head, weighing only around three pounds at most, providing mobility in addition to protection.

    Deformation

    • Kevlar Helmets are designed to minimize backface deformation, meaning that upon impact, only the exterior of the helmet will become dented. The inside portion will remain intact, preventing additional damage other than the blunt trauma.

    Suspension

    • Kevlar Helmets use a four-point chin strap with a quick release mechanism to allow for rapid removal if necessary.
