Review of Crème Minerals and Get Loose Foundations

Plain Jane Beauty is an eco-beauty cosmetics line that has the tagline “I am beautiful.”  The company wants to help strengthen the self-esteem in girls and women through cosmetics, giving a good "foundation" in more ways than one.  The foundation shade names are also positive affirmations.

Featured in this review are Plain Jane Beauty’s Crème Minerals and Get Loose foundations.

Plain Jane Beauty’s Crème Minerals is a liquid foundation formulated with 85% certified organic ingredients.  The company believes that anything applied on the skin should provide protection and nourishment, including makeup.

Description

Crème Minerals is for all skin types (including oily) and provides sheer to medium coverage.
  • Manufacturer: SMB Essentials
  • Price: $34.50, 1 oz

Pros
  • 85% certified organic ingredients
  • Vegan, gluten free
  • Doesn’t contain petroleum-derived ingredients (such as butylene glycol, propylene glycol, mineral oil and petrolatum) or silicone-based additives.
  • Available in 16 shades in Cool (four shades), Neutral (six shades) and Warm (six shades) categories.

Cons
  • It has a bit of an odd scent.

Main Ingredients

Organic aloe juice, organic Jojoba oil, organic rooibos extract, titanium dioxide, organic calendula extract, emulsifying wax, tocopherol (vitamin E), iron oxide, organic green tea extract, cetyl alcohol, mica, zinc oxide, meadowfoam oil, carrot oil, rosemary extract, neem and frankincense, cistus, lavender, cedarwood and chamomile essential oils.

Usage

The foundation can be applied with fingertips or a foundation brush.  To achieve a perfectly blended finish, the company suggests dotting Crème Minerals on the forehead, nose and chin.  Then, using a blending brush, begin in the middle of the forehead and blend the product down and out toward the temples.  Next blend over the nose and chin in a downward motion, then sweep the brush out and over the cheeks toward the ears.

Review of Crème Minerals

So far, I'm impressed with this cosmetics line. The only thing plain about Plain Jane Beauty is that it seems to be free of a lot of unnecessary chemicals. While silicones give a silky feel to products, which I admit I do like, for some people this, as well as petroleum-derived products, can lead to clogged pores.  The Crème Minerals foundation has a silky feel without having those ingredients.

I had a tester try #15 I Am Exquisite, to find out how a deeper shade would fare.  She applied it with her fingers and liked the actual feel of the foundation, noticing that it blended nicely and was smooth in both the look and feel.  In fact, she loved the way it looked, giving her skin a very pretty color.  The product tester also noted that she doesn’t usually have this reaction to the appearance of foundation.

I tested #9 I Am Stunning, which blended well and also enhanced my complexion.  I wasn’t crazy about the scent, but the tester had no problems with it.

How to Match Foundation to Skin Tone

Get Loose is a loose powder mineral foundation for normal, combination and oily skin types and provides medium to full coverage.

Description

Get Loose has a non-drying formula that helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Get Loose contains mica that is coated with carnuba wax to impart a soft silky finish, without clumping or caking.
  • Manufacturer: SMB Essentials
  • Price:  $29.50, .35 oz

    Pros
    • Vegan and gluten free
    • Available in 16 shades in Cool (four) Neutral (six) and Warm (six)

    Cons

Might not be the best choice for dry or mature skin.

    Ingredients
    • Sericite Mica, Carnauba Wax, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron oxides, and Allantoin. May contain Ultramarines and Chromium Oxide.

Review of Get Loose Loose Powder Mineral Foundation

Get Loose can look a little powdery when first applied just as the company warns. In a few minutes it settles into the skin and looks more natural.  However, if you have dry skin or mature skin with lines, it tends to emphasize them. In that case you might want to use this with a light touch only in certain areas of the face and away from any lines, such as underneath the eyes. Get Loose can also be used as a setting powder.

    Mineral Makeup: Liquid vs Powder

Another good thing about the Plain Jane Beauty foundations is that once you've found your perfect shade you can easily match it to a loose powder or liquid foundation with the same number. For example,  #9 I Am Stunning matches #9 in the loose powder and the Impressed pressed powder foundation.

The line provides a decent amount of shades for skin of color.  I probably would skip the loose powder (simply because I don't feel powders suit me), but I definitely like the CrèmeMinerals foundation.
