Homemade Balance Beams

    • 1). Use the router to round off the two top edges of the 4x4x10 post beam.

    • 2). Use the sander to sand the entire beam to get rid of any splinter edges or rough spots.

    • 3). Cut the board 4x4x4 in half to get two, 2-foot long pieces.

    • 4). Measure the 2-foot pieces to mark the exact center; this should be at 12 inches.

    • 5). Mark two inches out on each side from the center mark, to make a total of four inches. Then measure down two and one-fourth inches on each side.

    • 6). Take the jigsaw and cut out the drawn square out on each 2-foot piece. Use the jigsaw to cut off the top corners. (This can also be done by the router, but will result in smaller corner pieces.)

    • 7). Spread out the fabric and lay the post beam down on top of it.

    • 8). Pull the fabric tightly around the board and use the staple gun to staple it in place. Repeat this all the way down the board. Cut off any additional fabric once the stapling has been completed.

    • 9). Place the board into two end pieces in the cut-out slots. Check the board with a level to make sure it's even. Make any adjustments if needed.
