What Should You Drink if You Have Fibromyalgia

92
What is fibromyalgia and what should your diet consist of? In addition to what you eat, you also need to be careful about what you drink. By far, the best liquid to consume is purified water. It is refreshing and replenishes the water that we sweat out of our system. It also helps flush out toxins and impurities from your body. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day is one of the best things you can do for yourself, whether or not you have fibromyalgia.

Soda is one of the worst things you can drink. It is empty calories and filled with artificial colors, sugar and carbonation. Diet sodas are just as bad with their fake sweeteners. If you make only one change for your fibromyalgia diet, eliminating soda is the number one thing you can do.

Coffee is another major culprit. The caffeine is not good for you and can contribute to your sleep issues. Switching to decaf is better, but there are other drinks that are preferable to that. Herbal teas are a superior choice. They won't give you that edgy, jittery feeling that coffee brings on.

Alcohol is also filled with empty calories and lots of them. It is best to avoid alcohol as much as possible, especially while you are figuring out what diet will work best for you.

So what can you drink?

There are a whole lot of things that you can drink that are good for you and help your body. Herbal teas are great, your local grocery store or health food store should carry a wide selection. There are herbal teas to help you relax, fall asleep, aide your digestion, and help with painful periods. These are typically drunk warm.

But when it's the middle of summer, a hot cup of tea is probably the last thing you want, so how about ice tea instead? Get a package of fruit flavored tea, like raspberry, strawberry or pomegranate, and brew up some ice tea. It's a great substitute for soda. Make a big pitcher according the directions on the package and put it in the fridge for the whole family. It's much better for the kids to be drinking instead of something out of a package. Make it fun by adding slices of fruit, like oranges, strawberries or lemons, fresh mint leaves or ginger slices. Experiment to find a flavor that your family enjoys. If it's not sweet enough, try using something like agave nectar, stevia or even maple syrup instead of processed sugar. Don't use too much though, and after time, you will need even less as your taste buds adjust to less sweetness.

If you enjoy fruit and vegetable juices, you might consider investing in a juicer. Not only does it taste delicious, but you can make your own recipes that help keep your digestive system in top shape. Juice is best when made fresh and drank right away, ideally within 20 minutes. This provides for the greatest amounts of nutrients to be ingested.

Look for recipes on the internet, like vegetable combinations that provide a healthy blend of nutrients, vitamins and minerals or special treats like apple, carrot and ginger juice for cleansing. If you've only ever had juice from a box, than you are in for a real treat! Nothing beats the taste of fresh squeezed juice!
