Decades of research and medical expertise have established how much obesity is damaging to health. The costs to society in the US is staggering and approaches several hundred billion dollars yearly. Of course much less is spent for weight loss products, but it continues to be in the billions annually. The US has been slowly putting on more weight with each passing year, or so it appears. What is also perfectly known are the many unhealthy foods and liquids a lot of people consume. There is certainly no secret that a great number of foods contain high sugar and fat content. Obesity typically causes an array of health conditions, and here are a couple of important ones.

One of the most significant effects of obesity is type 2 diabetes, and a lot more new instances appear each year. More younger people in their teenager years are obese, and doctors are seeing an upward spiral with type 2 diabetes. The starting point of diabetes occurs because study has demonstrated a high link involving insulin resistance and morbid obesity. The problem is made much worse with daily consumption of increased amounts of sugar containing products. For many years, various warnings have been made concerning the use of high fructose corn syrup in most soft drinks and other popular beverages. Normal white sugar is undesirable enough, however high fructose corn syrup is extremely sweet and detrimental with prolonged ingestion.

Common problems concerning joints are known to take place in highly obese people. The key parts are the weight bearing joints like hips, knees and ankles. The greatly obese person can be at elevated risk for joint troubles such as osteoarthritis. However, the solution is not always so straightforward as merely replacing a damaged joint. However, the most effective results occur when there is no obese condition in these patients. Overweight people basically do not always have a good option in this case. If a joint is changed, what can often occur are further complications after the surgical procedure. The joint that was changed may begin to be mechanically unsound which can be highly undesireable.

Problems are common concerning the cardiovascular system and particularly high blood pressure. As along with several of our bodily functions, excessive fat puts a severe strain on the body. The basis for this as it pertains to the heart is the extra fat tissue still requires blood for nutrients and oxygen. It all leads back to the heart certainly since that is what moves the blood. The simple net effect is to produce a condition of higher blood pressure. Another common result is a chronically higher heart rate caused by the higher workload necessary.

Obesity puts your body in a high risk state for a wide selection of health conditions. There are a lot more similarly unsafe conditions that can easily result from an overweight condition.
