Hi, I'm T. Cooper, I'm a New York City makeup artist, hairstylist and co-founder of beauty and grooming company, Metro Look. Today, I'm going to show you how to do a Japanese top knot. As you can see, my model's hair has already been put into a ponytail, shes got a little bit of baby hairs sticking out. So for that, it's an easy remedy, I'm just going to use a little bit of styling wax. Put that into the palm of my hand, warm it up and just smooth it down, just smooth all those little areas down. And if you have any stubborn bits, like this one right here, you just take a brush and then, you smooth it down, no problem, easy-breezy, all over the head, here you go. Now, we have a nice, smooth ponytail foundation. So, for this look, you're definitely going to need some bobby pins, and you're going to need hairspray. So, I'm going to spray the ponytail, because you want it as nice and smooth and slick as you can get it. So, I'm going to take a brush and I'm just going to brush it down and spray it one more time. So, since it's a top knot, you grab the hair up, kind of high, you fold it, I would say, like the half way point of the ponytail. You fold it, you grab the bottom, and you swing it around. And this is when you're going to need your pins, because as you're swinging things around, you're going to need to pin them, to make sure that they're in place. So, take a pin and underneath at the bottom, you want to pin it as low as you can, because you really don't want your pins to show very much, stick it in there. And as you bring it around, you continue that process, you want to make sure this holds. And as you get to the back, like so, you're going to have hair like this, that's no big deal because this is not going to show, you just pin it down. O.k., so, if you've got something that looks like this, it looks a little crazy, but you're on the right track. So, then, what you do, as you go from the inside, you see this little inside space right there? And then, you fold that over, like so. And then, you see, you've got that kind of knot thing going on right now. So, when you fold that over, you tuck any little bits underneath, and you hold it in place, and you pin it. So, you grab your bobby pins, for this, I'll pin on the inside, instead of the outside. So, I'm going to need a couple of them. I'm going to turn her around, and do another one, another big one. For this, you can use the bigger bobby pins that'll hold a little better than the smaller ones. And then, there you go. Take the hairspray, just spray it all around, and you've got a nice top knot going on. I'm T. Cooper and I just showed you how to do a Japanese top knot, thanks for watching.
