Millions of bacteria manage to survive in the mouth, predominantly on the backside of the tongue.
This is the primary cause of bad breath in many cases because the mouth's temperate and humid setting is ideal for the development of bacteria.
Bad breath is the common name for the medical condition known as halitosis.
Statistics in the United States say that about 40 million of its population has bad breath.
This growing number of people who suffer from bad breath is already alarming.
We must practice good oral hygiene to avoid halitosis.
Causes •Insufficient dental hygiene - irregular or inappropriate brushing and flossing of the teeth let small pieces of food to be stocked between the teeth and decay inside the mouth.
•Infectivity of the mouth - this can be caused by either tooth cavity or by periodontal (gum) ailment.
•Respiratory infections - lung infections, sinus or throat •External sources - eating foods with garlic and onions, drinking coffee, cigarette smoking and chewing tobacco.
These can also lead to the discoloration of teeth.
•Dry mouth (xerostomia) - this can be caused by "mouth breathing", salivary gland problems, or medicines.
•Illnesses - diseases such as diabetes, reflux disease, liver disease, lung disease, sinus disease, kidney disease and others.
•Psychiatric ill health -this is referred to as "pseudo halitosis" which refers to the act of believing of having bad breath but others do not notice it.
Remedies Fenugreek- amongst the numerous home remedies for halitosis, the use of fenugreek has been verified to be the most effective.
This tea is prepared by placing one teaspoon of seeds in 1/2 liter of cold water and let it boil for fifteen minutes under a low fire.
Avocado- It in fact gets rid of intestinal decomposition or putrefaction which is one of the main causes of bad breath.
Guava- young guava is helpful in halitosis.
It is rich in malic, tannic, oxalic, and phosphoric acids as well as oxalate, calcium and manganese.
Chewing up guava is a great refresher for the gums and teeth.
Chewing the tender leaves of the guava tree stops bad breath and cures bleeding from gums.
Parsley - an important cure for bad breath.
Two cups of water must be simmered and some sprigs of parsley need to be thickly chopped.
It should also be boiled together with two or three whole cloves or a quarter teaspoon of ground cloves.
This blend is supposed to be stirred infrequently while cooling.
Use it as a gargle or mouthwash many times a day.
Apple cider vinegar - take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar immediately prior to every meal.
Baking soda - brush the teeth with baking soda to help trim down the acidity in the mouth and make a less-friendly atmosphere for bacteria to cultivate.
Water, salt- wash out the mouth with salt water to assist in the cleaning out of food particles bacteria and mucus on tonsils or the backside of the throat.
