Acne-Free Redness Relief

    Selecting a Cleanser

    • Many acne cleansers contain ingredients that are designed to dry oils on the skin. Although this is helpful in drying up acne pustules, it can be aggravating to the skin over time and can actually exacerbate acne. Instead of using deodorant soap or acne soaps and cleansers, use a soap or a cleanser that's formulated for sensitive skin. Using a sensitive-skin soap cleans the skin without inflaming it, which helps to reduce redness. Use an extremely gentle touch and avoid scrubbing your face. Simply lather the face well with a sensitive-skin soap, and rinse the lather off with warm to cool water. Wash the skin using this method twice per day.

    Selecting a Cream

    • Acne treatment cream contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide that are designed to dry up acne blemishes, kill acne-causing bacteria, and prevent new acne from forming. While it's helpful to use a benzoyl peroxide cream to treat acne, using one that's too strong will lead to redness and irritation. Use a benzoyl peroxide cream on the skin that's 2.5 percent in concentration or lower, which will clear the skin without causing redness or peeling. Use a dime-sized amount, and spread the cream onto the skin gently. Avoid rubbing it in, which can irritate the skin. Allow the cream to dry on the skin completely before applying any other product. Apply a low-concentration acne cream twice a day after washing.

    Selecting a Moisturizer

    • Most people use an acne cream without applying a moisturizing lotion afterward. This is one of the biggest mistakes that people can make when trying to clear up their skin and prevent redness. Use an oil-free moisturizer designed for people with sensitive skin. This will ensure that the lotion will not contain chemical ingredients that could inflame the skin. Use a dime-sized amount and spread the lotion onto the skin until the lotion has been absorbed. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to the skin twice per day.
