How to Relieve Toothaches

43
    • 1). Clean your mouth really well. Gargle with mouthwash for two to three minutes if the pain will allow it. If not, gargle for as long as you can. If the pain is too extreme for gargling with mouthwash, do so with clean water. This process will help to clear out any debris you may have in between your teeth.

    • 2). Brush your teeth gently with your normal toothpaste and toothbrush. If possible, brush the affected tooth in order to clean the area. If the pain does not allow you to do so, brush around the tooth that is aching and just clean the rest of your mouth.

    • 3). Take pain killers to relieve some of the pain. Aspirin or Tylenol are mild pain killers that work well. When you make an appointment with your dentist, she may recommend something a bit stronger.

    • 4). Apply a hot pack to your jaw where the toothache is. You can either purchase a medical hot water pack or create your own by wrapping a plastic bottle full of hot water in a towel. The warmth will relieve some of the pain you are experiencing.

    • 5). Make yourself comfortable. The more comfortable the rest of your body is, the more comfortable you will be in general. Lie down if that's what works for you, or prop yourself up if you feel better that way.
