Homemade Pull-up Bar for CrossFit
- 1). Measure the width between a door frame anywhere in your house. This is where you will later position the pull-up bar so it is essential that you measure the exact width of the frame.
- 2). Cut a steel bar to the exact length as the width of the door frame with a power ijgsaw or an angle grinder. The bar should be around 1-inch in diameter. Opting for a larger bar has its benefits. The wider the bar, the more it will work your forearms as well as the rest of your upper body. Do not, however, use anything larger than a 2-inch diameter bar as this will probably be too large to grip.
- 3). Attach mounting brackets to the door frames. Drill holes into the frame and screw them in tight. Make sure the bar fits into them. Do not attach them so high that you will hit your head on the top of the door frame.
- 4). Slot the bar into the brackets. This should be easy if all your measurements are correct. If the bar is too big, simply use a power jigsaw or an angle grinder to take a little more off the ends.
- 5). Wrap fabric around the gripping areas. This is an optional step, but it is a good idea especially if you have not used a pull-up bar before as gripping the bar can become painful to your hands.
