How to Make Shrimp Straight
- 1). Grasp a shrimp in your nondominant hand, with the tail facing toward you. Turn it belly-up, and insert the point of a bamboo skewer under the last shell segment, where it meets the tail.
- 2). Slide the skewer gently into the body of the shrimp, angling it to point at the thickest part of the shrimp's body.
- 3). Straighten the shrimp with the thumb and fingers of your nondominant hand, as you push the skewer further into its body.
- 4). Continue until the shrimp is straightened and the skewer runs the length of its shell. Set aside, and repeat for the remaining shrimp.
- 5). Grill, poach or bake the shrimp. They will remain straight when cooked. The skewers can be removed before service, or left in as a handle if they are to be served at barbecues and other casual occasions.
