The symptoms of panic attacks in adults are very similar to that of a heart condition or heart attack, but with unique thought patterns and fears associated.

  3. Hot or cold flashes

  4. Chest pains

  5. Difficulty breathing/fast breathing patterns

  6. Rapidly accelerating heart rate

  7. Sweating

  8. Dreadful fear of something horrible happening or that you may die




These are classic signs of an anxiety or "panic attack". It is a feeling that you have lost your mind and can not concentrate or focus on anything. This is brought about by waves intense anxiety followed by dread or fear. If you suffer from these attacks understand that you are not a weak or cowardly individual, but your brain has been triggered to put your nervous system into fight or flight mode when the situation may not call for it. This is a medical condition, not a lack of character.

To avoid this you need to learn deep relaxation techniques and effective stress management. In most cases the fear of having an embarrassing attack in the future is what causes more attacks. Depression and anxiety seem to go hand in hand as well. Take an honest look at your medical history to determine if these may be contributing to your problem. Until these issues are dealt with you will have a hard time keeping your anxiety down to normal.

The symptoms of panic attacks in adults are usually more obvious than with children or adolescents. Children do not seem to exhibit the fears of death or horrible things happening. It is believed that these irrational fears come with age. Your best protection against stress and anxiety is to learn how to truly relax and alleviate your body and nervous system. Talking to a therapist about cognitive therapy can help reprogram your brain to look at stress and anxiety as just a part of life rather than a life or death situation.
