Convert "Worry" Time to "Story" Time

21
What is your first thought when you wake up in the morning? What thoughts are speeding through your mind as you go through your morning routine? Are they thoughts of appreciation for another glorious day? Are they anxious thoughts, wondering how something that is bothering you will work out - perhaps fear that something will cause pain or harm to you or your loved ones? Or are your thoughts a combination of appreciation and fear? If your answer to the above questions leans toward a negative response, take some time to think about the famous quote by the great philosopher, John Locke: "What worries you, masters you.
" How can you apply this thought to your life? - Take a moment to think about how powerful you are.
Think about all the things that happen in your world because of you.
About the influence you have over occurrences in your life.
If you really think about this and write down your observances, you will be amazed at just how powerful you actually are! - Now, what do you suppose causes your power, your influence? Where do you suppose it stems from? - The good news is that it starts with your thoughts! Whatever you think about - whatever floats across your mind at any given moment, creates energy.
If you pay close attention to this fact, you'll notice it inside of yourself as you just sit or lay down quietly and think.
Pay attention to how you feel.
The fact is, how you feel is a direct result of what you are thinking.
- If you are thinking about something that is worrying you, how do you feel? - What are the thoughts that are whirling around in your head? - Are you solving a problem, or creating the worst case scenario? How do these thoughts make you feel? - Do you feel good or do you feel uncomfortable? - What is your preference - to feel good or to feel uncomfortable? Answering these questions is how you can start to understand your power.
You can choose to feel good by choosing your thoughts.
Or you can choose to feel uncomfortable by choosing your thoughts.
As John Locke said, "What worries you, masters you.
" What do you choose to think about? Try this experiment.
- Whenever you notice a worrisome thought pop into your head, consciously and actively modify that thought so that the outcome is positive.
- For example, if you have an appointment with the doctor and you're afraid of what you'll find out, modify your thoughts to seeing a positive outcome - positive! - Create the whole story in your mind of a positive experience.
And believe it! Feel it! - Imagine yourself smiling, upbeat, thinking about things that make you feel good, and in your mind, as you leave the doctor's office you are STILL smiling and feeling good.
- After you've created your new story, check in with yourself and see how you feel.
- If worrisome thoughts enter your mind as you're doing this exercise, keep changing them to the way you want your story to be.
- If you find it difficult to change your whole story in your mind, then take small steps.
Change pieces of your story to a positive experience and, step by step, change your whole story until you feel good when you imagine that originally worrisome thought in a positive light with a positive outcome.
- Or switch channels altogether.
Slip that worrisome thought out of your mind completely and experience a lovely thought in its place.
Imagine a beautiful sunset or a baby laughing or an eagle in flight - whatever makes you feel good.
Keep doing this.
Keep reminding yourself: - I am the master of my thoughts.
- Whatever thought is dominating my mind determines how I feel, and I choose to feel good! - I choose to feel good all the time.
- I feel a smile.
- I am powerful.
- I choose thoughts that bring me happiness and freely let any negative thoughts fade away, just fade away.
As you continue to convert your "worry time" to your positive "story time", you will notice your life gradually move in the direction of your positive thoughts, and those anxious feelings will gradually disappear.
So, what are your intentions today? Here's to your positive story shining through as you embrace your power and feel good, all the time.
