The BLT With A Twist--Try A BLAAT

58
We all love a BLT from time to time. I like to add avocado and alfalfa sprouts and hence the name BLAAT. We all also have our favorite breads that we to make our sandwich with. My favorites, alternating, are baguette, whole wheat, and pumpernickel swirl. I like the bread lightly toasted, with a coat of mayonnaise but not too much, and nothing fancy like capers. I also like to use toothpicks to keep things neat. Eating the BLAAT is never very neat, but preparing it is.

Here's what you need for a good BLAAT:

-Three or four slices of bacon

-A single slice of iceberg lettuce

-A single slice of tomato (garden ripened and still green on top is best)

-A thin layer of alfalfa sprouts

-Half an avocado

-Bread of your choice, lightly toasted

-Mayonnaise

If you want to get adventurous that's up to you. I personally am pretty conservative about my BLAAT's. I don't go for kosher dills, though you might. You may opt for a dab of ketchup. That's perfectly within your range of freedom. I don't go for exotic cheeses, though you may be more daring than me in that respect. And I have to confess that really, I don't use capers for anything.

How to make the sandwich should be pretty self-explanatory from the ingredients. Don't be a masher, or you'll release a lot of liquid and end up with a sloppy goo. I, like most of us, prefer my bacon extra crisp (and my lettuce as well) and I slice my avocado flat so it doesn't go shooting out of the sandwich and land on the living room rug.

It's a tasty sandwich, not for every day eating though. In fact and I don't know why, I prefer it on Sunday for some reason.
