Building Good Relationships
Building Good Relationships is essential if we are to prosper and enjoy a successful life. Communication is at the heart of good social and business intercourse. To enjoy good communication it is essential that trust and integrity are allowed to develop and grow between the parties. We need to develop a feeling of rapport with others so that free expression of thoughts and ideas can pass between us and develop a feeling of wellbeing and comfort in each others presence. Just a simple "hello" initiates the start of a long process of a conscious and subconscious relationship that trust and integrity allow to flourish.
Communication is at the source of our being. To be adept we must learn and practice it so that it becomes second nature. We have to be honest with ourselves before we can build lasting relationships, and communication is the process whereby attraction between the parties is allowed to develop and flourish. We must practice this skill so that it becomes a habit. Good communication is a habit born of endless repetition and learnt behaviour
It is now a well established fact that the first 10-15 seconds of a meeting between two parties creates an impression that is subsequently very difficult to change. So that initial hello/smile/handshake are so vital in forming a judgement of the other person. It does not matter wether we are talking about the field of business or we are talking about a purely social event we have to learn the art of communication so that an initial meeting can be built into a long and lasting mutually beneficial relationship
So how do we heighten our communication skills. Well communication has to be a two way process and this is integrated into conversation. Conversation between two parties relies on mutual trust, respect and empathy which allows the communication to develop. You will be judged by how honest you are and the integrity you show and not by a misjudged attempt to harness somebodies friendship. They will see through this very quickly and the relationship will be very adversely affected.
Think of your behaviour in good relationships. Note how calm and controlled your voice is. How your body language reflects how at ease you are with yourself and the other party. How your eyes are focused on that person. Own this feeling and try to replicate it with others in different situations.
This brings you to the subject of self esteem. You have to build confidence in yourself to allow your natural desire to function to its maximum in any given situation. Confidence is being true to oneself. It is the outward expression of beliefs and values that we hold dear to our heart. Try and fake them and you will be definitely found out. You have heard the expression "be true to yourself". This expression is the building block of all fruitful relationships and happiness within.
