How to Substitute Fat with Butter & Shortening
- 1). Measure out three parts butter to one part shortening in place of the lard. If you need 8 tbsp. of lard, use 2 tbsp. of shortening and six tbsp. of butter.
- 2). Mix the butter and shortening into your dish per the instructions in your recipe. Some recipes may require you to mix the butter and shortening together before adding it to your recipe. Other recipes may have you add the butter first, then the shortening.
- 3). Prepare the rest of the recipe per the instructions.
