How to Keep Dungeness Crabs Alive Before Cooking
- 1). Put the crab in a cool, moist environment, such as a cooler, covered with fresh seaweed. Cover the area with a burlap bag. This should keep the crab alive overnight.
- 2). Put the crab in a cooler filled with ocean water. Cover the crab completely. Stir up the water every 30 minutes to get oxygen circulating. The crab needs this to breathe properly.
- 3). Store your crab in an aerated saltwater tank for up to two weeks. Provide the crab with seaweed for food. Though this option is effective, it isn't feasible for most people.
