What Are the Dangers of Laser Surgery?
- Laser eye surgery is called photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), and the risks associated include fluctuating vision, glare, astigmatism and, very rarely, blindness.
- Laser liposuction patients often experience swelling and bruising in the days after surgery. A small percentage of patients might develop an infection.
- Temporary redness and swelling are typical side effects of laser hair removal. Changes to skin pigmentation and burns can result if laser hair removal isn't performed correctly.
- Laser tattoo removal could result in lightening of the skin in the area in which the tattoo was removed.
- Laser skin resurfacing, sometimes called laser peel, carries many potential dangers, including changes to skin color, infection and permanent scarring.
