What Is Your Clutter Barometer?

In Junior High, my math teacher blamed the barometric pressure for those days when everything went wrong in his classroom.
You know, the days when you weren't safe from spit balls, or when the guy behind you pulled out your chair and you sat in slow motion all the way down to the linoleum.
If only we could blame the barometer for the clutter that builds up where we live.
You desperately want to live in an orderly and peaceful environment.
What keeps holding you back? It seems like for every step you take to get organized, you take two steps back! Often people assume that their disorganization stems from one of two problems: 1.
They suffer from lack ofspace in their home/office area.
2.
They are lazy, sloppy, or incompetent.
The good news is thatneither of these are necessarily true.
Clutter more often stems from simply having too much stuff or from not using existing space effectively than from a true lack of space.
Think about living on a boat, or in a 500 sq ft apartment in the city.
These are true "no space" scenarios! If you are keeping things you never use and certainly don't find beautiful, you may need to let go of a few things.
Organizing less is always easier! After you purge, look around and see if you have "empty air".
This can be along one wall, near your ceiling, behind a door, or under a bed.
Find one of the many storage options on the market to help you make good use of that new found space.
People often expend a lot of time, effort, and money trying one organizing solution after another thinking the latest one will solve the problem.
This is not the sign of a lazy or sloppy person.
Usually this means that you are not consideringyour habits and preferences in the process.
Then you end up trying to maintain a system that goes against your natural instincts.
Organizing is not a matter of following rules or conforming to some boring, colorless plan.
Each person has a particular bent to organizing his/her world.
There is no "one size fits all" organizing system.
If you like piles, that is OK.
Try naming the piles so you will automatically know what is there.
If you have to see things to know where they are, use lots of see-through baskets or organize your files in containers on shelves rather than in a drawer.
If you are a creative person who loves color and texture, be sure to incorporate both in your search for storage containers..
Re-purpose containers that normally aren't used for storage like flower pots, baby food jars, or old lunchboxes.
You will have fun putting things away in a funky place you have designed just for that purpose.
You don't have to be a victim of clutter.
Take these steps to take control of your L.

Find a place for each category, using fun containers 4.
Every day put things back in their home You will soon find that you have more time, more space, and much less frustration! Don't blame it on thebarometer.
